About this tool
- Where it runs
- On the server: a browser cannot do this kind of work. The file is uploaded only for as long as the job takes and deleted right after — two hours without an account, twenty-four hours with one.
- What it accepts
- DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, DOC, XLS, PPT, ODT, ODS, ODP, RTF, TXT. The type is determined by the file contents, not by its extension.
- Limits
- Up to 5 files at a time, each up to 50 MB, 100 MB in total.
Frequently asked
- Will the document look exactly the same?
- Almost. It is rendered with the fonts in our image: Times, Arial and Courier are replaced by metrically identical Liberation faces, but Calibri — the Word default — has no exact twin. The shapes are close, yet line breaks and page count can shift slightly. If layout is critical, embed the fonts before uploading.
- What is the PDF/A checkbox?
- PDF/A is the long-term storage flavour of PDF: all fonts are embedded and external links are forbidden. Archives, courts and government bodies ask for it. The file comes out noticeably heavier, so it is off by default.
- Will Excel formulas be calculated?
- The PDF gets the values that were in the file at conversion time, exactly as printing would. Nothing is recalculated, so save the spreadsheet before uploading.
- What about PDF back to Word?
- We do not do that. Rebuilding layout from a finished page cannot be done honestly: you get a document that is easier to retype than to fix. Keep the original instead.
- Does the file go to the server?
- Yes, this one runs on the server: an office engine does not fit in a browser. The upload and the result are deleted after two hours, or after a day if you are signed in.
