About this tool
- Where it runs
- On the server: a browser cannot do this kind of work. The file is uploaded only for as long as the job takes and deleted right after — two hours without an account, twenty-four hours with one.
- What it accepts
- PDF. The type is determined by the file contents, not by its extension.
- Limits
- Up to 10 files at a time, each up to 100 MB, 300 MB in total.
Frequently asked
- Why did the file not get smaller?
- Because there was nothing to compress: a text-only PDF has no images inside, and images are what the weight is made of. In that case we return the original file untouched — a rebuilt document of the same size would mean losing quality for nothing.
- Will the text suffer?
- No, text and vector graphics stay as they were. Only the images inside the document are re-encoded — and they account for almost all the weight of a scan or a presentation.
